Ok this may be a project that goes down burning like the Hindenburg before it but in an attempt to get my readers involved in this blog I want to open the floor briefly to you. Recently I've been on fire with the keyboard and can't seem to stop writing and from what I am told I am producing quality work. Well I've had lots of ideas over the years and few have come to successful fruition.
Fearless Reader I ask this of you, come up with your favourite idea for a short story and use the comment section of the blog to convey the basic idea, possible characters, themes, setting, plot events etc.
Producing something of quality from an idea sparked by another person is an interesting challenge that I want to try out. If nothing comes to mind, don't feel obligated to suggest something but if you can think of something, the next post of this Zombie Warrior may very well be your raw idea in the form of a short story.
'til next time.

Two young guys come from Smalltown USA to play at UNLV on football scholarships. They become fast friends. Over time they are seduced by Vegas' dark side. Kicked out of school on ethics violation they become small-time hustlers. Intelligent, funny, charming guys who are having the time of their lives....easy money, fast girls, no trouble. One late night they sign a document stating that they will split things 50/50 when they hit 'the bigtime', never thinking it will really happen. Enter hot girl, who they both fall for. She plays them for suckers in a minor scam and they get pinched. One rolls over on the other to the cops and walks free. The other is given a choice...prison or join the marines in Iraq. He chooses war over jail. While he's away, his buddy hits the bigtime and becomes rather famous. Trouble is neither knows what happened to that signed agreement...is it even legal and binding. Our boy comes back from war and wants payback and what is due and will use all the new tricks he's learned to get what he wants.
ReplyDeleteNot that I see this idea on screen, I may just send it to James Lee Burke or Harlan Coben if you don't want it.
I really like this, but it's huge, definitely more than what you would want to throw in a short story. But nevertheless I think this would be fantastic as a novel and a story that I could see myself telling. For my next post I'll write a prologue to the story and you can let me know what you think!
